2018 AWARD RECIPIENTS
University of Miami MISH (Miami Israel Science & Health) Fellowship in collaboration with
the Braun School of Public Health and Community Medicine, Hebrew University, Jerusalem.
Gabriela Guevara - Gaby is an MPH student at University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, Department of Public Health Sciences. She worked in the Jerusalem District Health Office, Ministry of Health in Jerusalem. She visited Tipat Halav Clinics (maternal and child health clinics), attended lectures at Hadassah Medical Center for the Monitoring and Evaluation Workshop as well as the Maternal Child Health classes with Dr. Chen Zamir, District (Jerusalem) Health Officer. She also researched pediatric dental caries in Israel and presented the findings to Tipat Halav.
Julia Janecki - MSPH student from Miami. She worked at the Linda Joy Pollin Center for Women's Cardiovascular Health at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem. Julia worked under the guidance of Donna Zfat-Zwas, MD, Director of the center. Julia worked with a group of ten women from different religious and ethnic backgrounds on a community health intervention project. One project specifically was educating Haredi women teachers about cardiovascular health and behaviors in the Ultra-Orthodox community in Jerusalem.
Michelle Katz - MPH/MAIA student from University of Miami. Michelle worked in the Division of Epidemiology in the Ministry of Health, Jerusalem. She was under the supervision of Dr. Emilia Anis. Michelle worked directly with Dr. Eric Haas on vaccine adoption rates in Israel from 2013-2017. She analyzed data on vaccine coverage rates within different districts and subdistricts of Jerusalem and analyzed levels of vaccine adoption within the different religious and cultural groups. She also analyzed data on the percentages of children in Jerusalem that are given eyesight tests in schools and compared them to statistics from across the country. Along with the zoonotic epidemiologist, Dr. Victoria Zakharain, she reviewed cases of rabies in 2018.
